Disable Password Default Sign-On

Instructions in reference to issue with user's who have ActivClient installed and are being prompted for password at logon instead of smartcard.

Default to Smartcard for logon

  • Add the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\SmartCardCredentialProvider\DisplayEmptySmartCardTileWhenNoReader(DWORD)=1

  • Change the default Credential Provider to ActivClient Credential Provider by setting the following policy: (gpedit.msc)

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Assign a default credential provider = {05A69B2E-F05A-426b-BB43-7895A67B1A56}

  • Navigate to gpedit.msc and run as administrator to Enable the following policies:
  1. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Interactive Logon: Don't display username at sign-in:
  2. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Interactive Logon: Don't display last signed-in:
